Junior Interior Designer

Dixon Smith Interiors is a renowned retail showroom providing comprehensive design services for both residential and commercial spaces. Located in Baton Rouge, LA, we have been serving the community for over sixty years. Founded by Dixon Smith, our store is known for its blend of traditional and contemporary furnishings, with a special focus on clean lines. Our 5,000 sq. ft. showroom and adjacent 5,000 sq. ft. warehouse offer a welcoming environment and a diverse array of products from the majority of our vendors. With a long history of beautiful interior design, we pride ourselves on our friendly, knowledgeable designers who are passionate about helping clients create spaces they love to live in.

Role Description

This is a full-time, 30- 40 hours a week, Monday - Friday, on-site role for a Junior Interior Designer at Dixon Smith Interiors. The Junior Interior Designer will be responsible for assisting in sales, design, project management, marketing, and business support roles that are both customer and business facing. This is an ideal job for a person at the start of a residential interior design career looking for work experience and a place to grow. There is potential to advance to a senior designer in this position depending on experience and proven results. This position is compensated by a combination of hourly wage commensurate with experience, commission, and a potential for bonus. We also offer benefits after 90 day trial period. No calls please. Qualifications

  • Proficiency with computers and digital equipment, Microsoft Office, design software and tools

  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail and residential design aesthetics

  • Must be comfortable learning sales in high end design environment

  • Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with clients and team members

  • Excellent verbal and written language and organizational skills required

  • Space Planning, Interior Design, and light architecture skills

  • Experience in creating construction drawings and renderings in software a plus

  • Basic knowledge of textiles and vendors, FF&E selection and specification preferred

  • Must be adaptable, willing, and able to quickly learn new skills relating to assigned duties and enjoy a small business setting in a dynamic environment

  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field strongly preferred

  • Social Media and Adobe Creative Suite experience a plus

  • Must be possess critical thinking, creative and analytical skillset

  • Must be able to squat, bend, twist, and reach

  • Must be able to lift minimum of 20 pounds comfortably

  • Must have excellent personal time management and reliable daily transportation

  • Must have valid Driver's License

  • Must be able to commute to this job and project locations
