Retail Assistant

DSI is currently reviewing qualified candidates for the multi-faceted role of Retail Assistant.

Our ideal candidate must possess a wide skillset with an ability to successfully perform a combination of tasks including but not limited to customer service, administrative assistance, and showroom/ designer support.

Responsibilities will include:

Customer Interface

  • Greet guests in a welcoming and friendly manner
  • Record the reason for each walk-in’s visit
  • Communication with designers when customers and clients have arrived
  • Maintain a neat and organized workspace

Communication – Internal & External

  • Answer the phone system in a friendly and professional manner
  • Communicate messages taken via phone to the appropriate party in their preferred method
  • Review the general mailbox email and distribute to the designers, accountant, owner, etc. where appropriate
  • Email or call customers politely and directly if requested, which may include communicating estimated arrival dates of items, delivery information, balances due, etc.

Design Assistance

  • Calculation of pricing of special orders when requested by designers from varying vendors
  • Research into pricing of fabrics and other items requested by designers
  • Generation of proposal data per designer’s request in the format requested (Excel, Word)

Design Center Management

  • The cleanup of work areas and design areas, which would involve redistributing samples and fabrics to their appropriate locations

Inventory Maintenance & Management

  • Enter all inventory items into our Point-of-Sale software and tag appropriate items once received
  • Imaging of new inventory and importing this in the Point-of-Sale software
  • Walk the floor and ensure tags are visible on all floor items

Purchasing & Sales

  • Be able to utilize our Point-of-Sale software to handle a customer’s purchases
  • Be able to utilize our Credit Card machinery to check a customer out or assist in paying their balance

Other Responsibilities

  • On occasion, be able to run errands per designer or owners request in own form of transportation
  • Assist in the rearrangement of the floor when needed (light items only)
  • Assist the designers in any of the project needs in a pleasant, positive demeanor
  • Refrain from conducting personal business in excess
  • Maintenance of a high level of confidentiality is required

Required Skills:

  • Experience in Office Excel, Word & Outlook Required – Testing of competency will be conducted, especially in Excel
  • Experience with Quickbooks preferred
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, Possessing the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy
  • Be able to work independently and be self-motivated

Physical Requirements:

  • Individual will be required to:
    • Sit for extended periods of time at a computer station or work desk
    • Stand and walk regularly throughout the day
    • Be able to use hands and fingers to operate computers and office equipment for up to 8 hours each day
    • Be able to twist, stoop, kneel, squat, bend and climb when required
    • Be able to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion
    • Be exposed to typical office environment conditions and noise levels
    • Be licensed to drive with the ability to travel locally in own form of transportation when required

Compensation:
